TORONTO, June 26, 2006 – Toronto based R. Ferri Competzione will field a Ferrari 430 GT race car into the remaining races for the GT2 class of the American Le Mans Series beginning this weekend at Lime Rock. It marks the first return for R. Ferri Competzione into the AMLS since 2004 and the addition of another Ferrari 430 GT into the class. The announcement also means that R. Ferri Competzione, which is owned and managed by Ferrari of Ontario, will compete in the Grand Prix of Mosport taking place on Labour Day weekend September 1-3 at Mosport.
Team owner and President of Ferrari of Ontario Remo Ferri said “We’re very pleased to be back in the American Lemans Series with Ferrari, this entry marks a strong return for R. Ferri Competizione and Ferrari of Ontario and we are very excited to participate in a prestigious series with the finest brand in the world, Ferrari”.
The Ferrari 430GT will be sporting car #61 in the GT2 Class Series. The drivers are Ralf Kelleners and Toni Vilander. Both have extensive racing experience at world class racing events. The team includes technicians from Ferrari of Ontario along with engineers and technicians from Risi Competzione who currently are running another Ferrari 430 GT in the ALMS.
“This race presents us with a unique opportunity to raise our profile among Canadians who appreciate Ferrari’s tradition in world class racing, said Ferri. It will also be great to compete at the Grand Prix of Mosport here in Ontario. Mosport will be a great race and we are glad to be a part of it”.
The American Le Mans Series features multi-class racing in cars such as Audi, Panoz, Corvette, Porsche, and Aston Martin. Ferrari has not been represented in the American Le Mans Series since 2004.
