Kite surfing must be big in China. Audi stepped up at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show to unveil a pair of Q3 models. One special edition for the Chinese market is being called the “jinlong yufeng” which translates to “Golden Dragon in the Wind”, appropriate as 2012 is the Year of the Dragon is the Chinese Zodiac.
The vehicle features a bright chrome yellow paint job with numerous sporty matte quartz coloured body panel bolted on. Apparently the vehicle reflects a young active lifestyle, particularly one suited to kite surfing. Attached to the vehicle’s roof rails are a pair of Audi designed and logo’d carbon fibre kite boards.
Inside the car, the interior reflects the same yellow and graphite combination with woven leather upholstery with yellow leather accents. Built-in novelties such as storage space for POV cameras and a bag for storing your surf kite highlight the purposeful interior.
Power for the seaside sport-ute comes from a turbocharged five cylinder engine producing 310 HP, mated to a 7-speed S-tronic transmission. Zero to 100 kms/hr comes up in 5.5 seconds and tops out at 250 kms/hr.
Five spoke quartz coloured 20 inch wheels and 255/40 tires give the jinlong yufeng a wider stance and lots of road contact to get the increased power down onto the pavement or off-road surface.
As you may have guessed from the model name, this special edition is destined for the Chinese market only.
