Subaru finally had the Canadian debut of its long awaited 2015 Subaru WRX STI sports car at the Toronto Auto Show.
The WRX STI had its world premiere at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit last month.
The new WRX STI has been designed as a sedan only as opposed to earlier models that offered both sedan and hatch options.
The new 2015 Subaru WRX STI sits atop the brand performance profile and is the public face of the brands extensive World Rally efforts. The 2015 WRX STI is powered by a 2.5-litre turbocharged/intercooled 4-cylinder boxer, flat opposed, engine that employs a Dual Active Valve Control System (Dual AVCS). The WRX STI’s engine produces 305 horsepower at 6,000 RPM and 290 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,000 RPM. All this power is fed to the vehicles all-wheel-drive system through a 6-speed manual transmission.
Subaru’s all-wheel-drive system has been modified for the STI. Active Torque Vectoring is included with other performance technologies including multi-mode Driver Controlled Centre Differential (DCCD) symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, multi-mode Vehicle Dynamics Control, and a Brembo performance brake system with super sport ABS.
A stiffer chassis sits atop a wider and longer wheelbase. The stiffer chassis will improve handling while the larger wheelbase has translated to more interior room for passengers.
The all-new 2015 Subaru WRX and WRX STI will be available this spring at Canadian dealerships. Pricing has now been confirmed with the base Subaru WRX STI startying at $37,995. A Sport Package which includes a large rear spoiler, an 8-way power driver’s seat, LED low-beam headlights, multi-reflector halogen fog lights and a power sunroof that opens one inch farther than on the previous model, adds $2,500. The Sport Tech grouping begins at $44,995 and includes a touchscreen navigation system that displays on a 6.1-inch LCD screen and offers voice controls as well as a harman/kardon premium nine-speaker audio system, the added luxury of leather-trimmed upholstery, and 18-inch BBS forged aluminum wheels.
