The 2006 Volvo C30 Concept, shown at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, provided consumers with a clear idea of what an upcoming production model C30 will look like.
The compact sports coupe features a muscular appearance with a sporty looking aerodynamic body kit and body skirting. The overall appearance of the 2 door hatchback has clearly evolved from the Safety Concept Car shown at last year’s Detroit Auto Show and some have remarked that the legendary P1800 DNA can be felt in the design.
Photographs do not do this vehicle justice, as a personal encounter evokes a much stronger feeling of the muscular stance and bold appearance of the bulging fenders and tight wheel overhangs. Most telling is that the C30 Concept is almost the same width as a Volvo S40 sedan, but is nine (9) inches shorter in overall length.
Under the hood lurks a potent 260 horsepower turbocharged, 5 cylinder, 2.4 litre engine that is estimated to propel the C30 from 0-60 mph in 6 seconds.
With seating for 4 passengers, the folding rear seat and hatchback configuration, will provide useful utility for consumers looking for a flexible, sporty car.
Volvo has not confirmed production dates of the C30 to date, however rumors have the vehicle hitting showrooms in mid to late 2006.
