General Motors swept the North American Car and Truck of the year awards on January 7, 2007, the opening day of the Detroit International Auto Show.
The critically acclaimed, all-new Chevrolet Silverado beat out the Ford Edge and Mazda CX7 to claim the Truck of the Year award. Standing shoulders above the 2 other competitors in height, the Chevy clearly was the only true truck platform competing in the field.
This distinction usually leads to a smaller car-based platform beating out the truck, due to the more refined car-like ride. The difference this year was the highly refined chassis and frame developed for the Silverado, which provides a ride that few will be able to distinguish from the popular CUV/SUV platforms.
The Silverado had won Motor Trends Truck of the Year and the AJAC Truck of the Year in previous contests.
